Having stood for two-and-a-half centuries this year, 2016 is more than a little special for Court Colman Manor. In today’s restless, rapidly-shifting world, you have to stop for a moment just to let that figure register. In 1766 Captain Cook had yet to sail to the pacific, the American Revolution was about to kick off and it was virtually impossible to find a decent curry in South Wales.

Fast forward to the present and our decades of history are just one reason to celebrate in 2016. This year sees the opening of two beautifully realised guest areas for the hotel, along with a whole host of events and special offers to thank our guests and mark a spectacular innings for the manor. Here are some great reasons to celebrate with us:

As beautiful as ever

As many of our guests will testify, the splendour of the house and grounds at Court Colman are reason enough to visit on their own, not to mention something of a well-kept secret among heritage sites and gardens in South Wales. Features such as grand spiral stairs and our delightful ballroom steal the show within, while those who stroll the  grounds quickly fall in love with the Victorian rose walk, lily pond and the classic sundial that is as old as the existing building itself. A living piece of South Wales history, you might say.

Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that the site itself has probably been inhabited a good deal longer than 250 years, with residents here dating to pre-Civil War times in the 1600s. You can read more about the past residents and features of the house in our history section.

From past times to the best hotel this side of Bridgend

We won’t lie to you, maintaining a property with as much character and as many decades on the clock as Court Colman Manor takes time and tender loving care. The present day venue is a butterfly that took quite some time and effort to hatch. But while it is much loved by staff and guests alike, we’re not resting on our laurels, and two major hotel renovations are now complete!

A brand new Garden Room will add an elegant additional guest capacity, while our new Bridal Suite looks sure to add even more wow factor to one of the most romantic wedding venues in South Wales. Naturally, we always refurbish tastefully and sensitively, to bring out the best of our grand old lady, especially on her 250th birthday.
