If you have had no choice but to postpone your 2020 wedding due to the coronavirus outbreak, then you are not alone. Thousands of couples in the UK have had no choice but to delay their spring nuptials until later in the year, or move the wedding to a similar date in 2021.
With your would-be wedding date just around the corner, and movement restrictions still in place, you may be anxious about navigating what would have been your big day.
Whilst we can’t change the situation, we have put together some ideas to help you keep your spirits up and mark your original wedding date from home.
...for the day together; ditch the chores, take time away from your screens and enjoy your favourite things – breakfast in bed, a long walk, a run, bake a cake or snuggle up and watch a film.
Plan to make a special meal to enjoy together - or if the fridge is looking a little empty, opt for a takeaway treat. Get dressed up, put your phones away, light some candles...
Have you got a bottle chilling for a special occasion – why not pop it open today and make a toast to your original wedding day, and a toast to your future one!
Play your chosen ‘first dance’ song and have a little sway on the kitchen tiles – consider it a practice run!
Book in a video call with family and friends to catch up, toast to your would-have-been-wedding-day and look forward to your new day. Create memories to treasure and we promise you’ll look back fondly on this day in years to come.
With the extra time you have ahead of your big day, think about how you could use this to plan extra little touches, or incorporate things that you didn’t think you had time/money for. You could even create some DIY decorations.
Write a letter or make eachother a card to explain why you want to marry each other and how much you are looking forward to spending the rest of your lives together.
We hope that these tips and ideas help you to enjoy the day, even if it's not quite how you imagined.
Don’t ignore the fact that today would have been your wedding day but try to avoid the ‘now we would have been doing this’ and ‘now we would have been doing that’. Just enjoy each other’s company and look to the future.
Try to remember, you may have to wait a few more months to marry, but you have the rest of your lives to spend together, and your wedding isn’t cancelled, merely paused for a little while.
