Dioch yn fawr. Thank you for wanting to know a little bit more about us. Steeped in history, our country manor hotel lies in the foothills of the Garw valley originally belonging to Margam abbey until the dissolution, before becoming a private residence, passing through several hands until in 1981 it became a hotel.
In 1999, the late Vijay Bhagotra bought his dream hotel. Having worked his whole life in the hospitality trade he felt the time was right to bring this then neglected building back to its former glory, in his own inimitable style. Today his wife and son, Sanjeev and their team are carrying his dream forwards. The foundations and his vision are still present for all our guests to enjoy to this day.
- The wonderful wedding venue with the Versailles ballroom, casting an unforgettable spell over all those who venture into it or for a more intimate occasion, the oak panelled Llewellyn room.
- The six acres of landscaped gardens encompassing terraced lawns, a Victorian rose walk, ornamental fishpond and even its own waterfall.
- The around-the-world themed bedrooms all with their designer bathrooms and a Jacuzzi bath adding a luxurious touch. From Venice to Morocco and India to Japan, who knows where you will end up.
- His great love, the multi award winning Bokhara Brasserie. Nowhere else in the world can you find an Indian restaurant set in a Georgian manor house. Let alone an award winning one. The Bokhara is a three time winner of the best Indian restaurant in Wales at the British Curry Awards as well as being awarded an AA Rosette for the last four years.
All of our staff feel a big responsibility towards those who were here before us. We understand that we are only here because of them. We also realise that it is our present day customers who keep us here today. It is for that reason that we are dedicated to maintaining the building, giving her the attention that she and all those before us would expect. Together with this, we aim to give all our guests the welcome they deserve and nothing is too much for our friendly staff, who are happy to tend to your every need.
That’s enough about us. Why don’t you come and visit us. Why not grab a bite to eat in the Bokhara, or have a drink in our cocktail bar or even enjoy the lovely view on the terrace and tell us all about your story.
